103. Robson Park, Surrey

We were out and about with no real plan today.  It had recently occurred to me that our playground map avoids Surrey almost completely - and say what you like about Surrey, it's nearby and must have some decent playgrounds?  We headed across the Pattullo Bridge (this dodgy bridge may be the reason we've avoided Surrey) and asked the GPS for the nearest cache with "Park" in the title.  And that is how we discovered lovely little Robson Park.  We played for a while on a cute little playground designed like a tree house - and Theo had fun too as some people came along who were only too happy to play stick with him.  We headed off in search of one of the three geocaches in the park after we'd played - the way to the cache was across a cute little bridge over a creek that had been dammed by beavers.  We didn't see any, but there were plenty of tell-tale tree stumps, sharpened like a pencil where the beavers had chewed.  I promised Charlotte we would come back one warm spring evening to see if we could see any.  I was very proud of Charlotte when we got to the site of "Robson Park Tree Hugger South" - it was clearly in a large tree and we started making our way around it when Charlotte said "There it is!"  She found it before me - I hadn't even had to pretend so that she could find it first!  We watched a pair of ducks paddling in the creek, then played at the playground for a little while longer before we were driven out by the smell coming from the potheads perched on a nearby picnic table.  This is Surrey, after all.  The park is located at N 49.11.054 W 122.52.247 and is point no. 103 on the map at the bottom of home page.

79. Redwood Park, Surrey

We went out to visit tío Gerardo, tía Gaby, Matías y Anna this weekend – we had asked them to take us to one or two of their favourite playgrounds in their area. We started off at Redwood Park – because it had the most geocaches in it and Matias was pretty excited to go find one! Charlotte had just woken up when we arrived at the park and was in need of some lunch, so we got off to a bit of a slow start, but once she got onto the merry-go-round, there was no stopping her! The kids all rode while the adults pushed, but we soon got pretty tired – or more to the point, we got dizzy!  Afterwards, we set off to find “Redwood Reading Room”, which was a nice big ammo can with lots of things in it, including some books. Matias was thrilled to have found it! Our plans to check out a second playground today fell through due to tired kids and iffy weather, but that just means that we will go back and play with our friends again one day soon! The playground is located at N 49.02.148 W 122.43.563 and is point #79 on the map at the bottom of home page.

22. Sunbury Park, Delta

Brr!  We've been treated to some lovely spring weather lately - but it wasn't too warm in windy Sunbury Park this afternoon!  We zipped out here from Richmond along the brand new South Fraser Perimeter Road.  When we first arrived, there was no one else in the playground, which suited me just fine as I had a geocache to find - a cache called "Olivia's Tiny Cache" is hidden right on the fence that surrounds the playground.  Or at least I assume it is - I couldn't find it!  I started at GZ (that's ground zero, where my GPS zeroes out) and fanned out from there, but came up short.  I stopped searching when a gang of muggles descended on the playground - which was okay with Charlotte as she wanted me to push her on the swings anyway.  The playground here is geared to younger kids, so it was great for her.  She enjoyed climbing, sliding and bouncing across the bridge.  The playground had a feature we hadn't yet seen in any of the other playgrounds we've visited - sort of a knobbly slide for climbing up, more than for sliding down.  It was still a bit much for Charlotte, but it was pretty cool.  After all, what kid doesn't like climbing up the slide just as much as sliding down it?  Finally, a slide where they can do just that!

It really was quite chilly and I thought we would be better off getting some dinner and heading to story time at the library rather than staying at the playground too much longer.  I gave Charlotte her usual two-minute warning - much to her dismay.  She did not want to go and repeatedly told me that she was "sad".  We went on to have lots of fun at story time and we chose some good books to take home with us.  But as I tucked Charlotte into bed that night, she once again told me she was "sad".  "Because we had to leave the playground?" I asked her.  "Yes," she said.  Poor Charlotte!  I guess she really loved this playground!  But as I pointed out to her, we're only on playground no. 22 - there will be plenty more playground trips to come!  This one is located at N49.09.362 W 122.56.023: https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?hl=en&authuser=0&mid=z7IAXiVD2wGY.ke14vi-3MYtI
